Shrine of new generation slave tour

In a packed Divan du Monde (lounge of the world… love that name), we had 3 bands show of another great quality.
First Dynosis with suffered sadly of a bad sound, too loud, the bass vibrating way to much and the singer being a little short vocally speaking.
After that came Jolly. The Americans, survivors of the Hurricane SANDY that swept through houses and studio of the band were very glad to be on tour displaying their strange looks and great music (which thankfully sounded better even with earplugs). A discovery for me which makes me want to listen to their audio guide to happiness (part 1 & 2 )

The plat de resistance was of course the now 5 albums and 2 EP old polish band old Riverside.
Displaying the same and now recognisable sound of the floydesque guitars and groovy bass, the band lead us into a great long show focusing mainly on (of course) the new album SoNGS (or SONGS maybe) and the previous one (Anno domini HD) ,even indulging themselves a 10 minutes from the in between EP memories on my head.
Voice was clear; all instruments quite easy nice listening (though it seems they arrived late to do the sound checks). The band played a bit quicker than usual (or at least on the discs) as in a rush.
But overall another great night for prog rock metal fans.

Build a world EP tour

One more night, one more concert.
This time it’s the English based the Pineapple Thief.
The band of Bruce Soord is coming back to Paris after a small tour for All the Wars and now touring for the EP build a world.
Suffice to say the set list was roughly the same as their last passage (minus sadly warm seas and still no so we row….)
The sound was good and the band very happy to be there… Hopefully they’ll be back soon. Great band easy to listen to by the way… check it out.

The flood inside (Long distance Calling Live)

Friday the 15th was discovery time.
Two groups I did not know ( Solstafir and Sahg) plus one I barely knew.
If the two first group did their job, special mention to the guys of Solstafir with their strange prog metal complete with long beard, redneck and jack Daniels chants and braids headbanging.
After that came the pièce de resistance. And a big one. German based Long Distance Calling who are mostly famous for their quasi only instrumental albums (4 so far) with the latest being with half lyrics. Bright move ?
I was a bit afraid at first because I did not know much of the band previous work and well it is instrumental.
But being a mostly instrumental band does not forbid the band to interact with the audience and well indeed they did, apparently Paris is the best city to tour this March… Bet they never say that to the next town they play- , they really talk and seemed genuinely happy to play for The –yet- small audience of Le Nouveau Casino.
And suffice to say the already great instrumental songs on disc really take their depths and really shine, converting the final hour and an half in a great musical experience… with a bonus with guest stars on the new album Petter Carlsen and Vinnie Cavanagh coming on stage for a one off on the song Welcome Change (special for Paris)

The raven that refused to sing and other stories

Another night. Another concert and very different.
Tonight was Steven Wilson night.
As the last time, the English frontman of Porcupine Tree played with the band he was touring during his second album.
An album he created for them and it shows (or at least it can be heard).
As last time, no guest, just the strange Munch like moon of the new album with some Bass Communion to put you in the mood.
For Mood is of the essence here. Steven Wilson (with of course, visual partner Lasse Hoile) weaves a web of murder, serial killers, deceit, sad and terrible stories with the help of wonderful musicians who really get into the music with ease. Never Luminol sounded better now it has been rehearsed and played a bunch of time.
Of course suffice to say that the mixing of the sound (with back effects like in your 5.1 home cinema boy !) are top notch, enhancing ten times the experience.
Glorious concert with only a small encore, the obvious and very allonged version of the now classic Porcupine tree (solo effort at the time as Steven would put out himself), Radioactive Toy.
Steven Wilson managed to put out one of the best show ever, complete with visuals and powerful musics.
Well done !

Raising the Imperial across forever in a momentum

It was a night to remember.
A big double headliner featuring the flower kings from Sweden who’ve been around for a while displaying their joyful and pretty much long pieces of music all other.
Tonight was no exception with (as you can see with the set list) pretty much all of the epic pieces of the current and past albums being played (sometimes abridged of course since the set was 1H30 time) with great prowess (though Hass seemed a little rough on the voice)
After that , finally the Neal Morse band came to France (and Paris) for a 1H30 set also featuring of course Randy George on bass and the over present and still much loved Mike Portnoy on drums, literally stealing the show.
Neal, touring with the momentum managed to get all on track with good and (how surprising) long songs including a medley for what I consider one of his best album ‘ ?’

Neal even took a stroll amidst the public- much to their joy- and keep pumping incredible energy throughout the show.

Then came the encore which started with Roine Stolt (supporting one and the worst orange stripped jacket ever ^^) coming for a duo with Neal on ’bridge across forever’
But.. but it is Transatlantic stuff… wait we have Neal, Roine, Mick… missing Pete it was obvious we could not get away with it without a 30 minutes medley of transatlantic, featuring at first the incredible Jonas on bass, replaced with Randy after a while.
But in the end the whole Flower kings and half the Neal Morse Band was there, chanting, playing loud in an apocalyptic finale making this evening truly unforgettable.
Thanks a lot guys.
